ISOC Committee meeting 14 February

Meeting convened at 5.45 at 24 Bloem Street Cape Town on the 14th February 2008

Portfolios

Community TV Collective to air from March. Bronwen to give ideas and contacts for this. Meeting to be set up between ISOC Community & Outreach person (Adriaan / Saul) and CTVC.

Glen’s play, “A Cellphone Affair” could be performed to schools as Department of Education is open to the idea. All ISOC members to read this play. Bronwen to create document with ideas and circulate via ISOC wiki.

Naresh in discussions with Siyafunda project in Mpumalanga.

Nii Quaynor from Ghana to be utilized as a channel for access to rest of Africa. Could be asked to host a talk to local members of parliament.

Bronwen suggested that ISOC have a position on Green IT as it is the hot topic in IT at the moment, with Gartner holding Symposium around this theme.

Topic to be used in newsletter.

Operations

Alan to look at creating a space for minutes on wiki.

Naresh to speak to Shaun at Joomla regarding website redesign – Henk to take over this responsibility – Naresh to send him details.

Glen still investigating alternative banking options for ISOC account.

Anti-spam info to be circulated via newsletter.

Naresh to prepare update of SA Chapter for ISOC 2007 Annual Report.

Newsletter

Bronwen to have newsletter ready by end-February. Members to send contributions by 21 February.

Finance

Glen to have a monthly bank statement ready for meetings.

General

It was decided that the role of ISOC spokesperson shall rest with the individual best suited to conduct the interview based on topic. Bronwen to ensure that interview opportunities be channeled to the correct person based on a quick vox pop from the committee.

CITI wants to approach City of Cape Town regarding spare bandwidth. ISOC to remain neutral on this until we receive feedback from CITI.

Members to visit public libraries and test SmartCape internet connectivity speed and give feedback.
