This is not a list of convicted spammers, but should only include those that you believe may be spammers in terms of the regulations in South Africa at this time. Please also include reasons why you believe the spammer committed the crime.

Name | Reasons

The “Peer Group” | http://www.peergroup.co.za/

Sent several spam messages. Unsubscribing failed (was only met with even more spam). Email asking to unsubscribe ignored (e.g. clive@peergroup.co.za). The spam facilities seem to be provided by LowFat (www.lowfat.co.za) an email “marketing” company.

Mervyn Kahn | Harvesting of inappropriate email addresses, does not provide active removals for ePasella.com online marketing .

Terrapin conferences | They acknowledge that one cannot (easily) unsubscribe and they cannot confirm how they obtained your identity

Wits Office of Alumni Affairs | October 2005, over 170 x 277kB emails sent. Request for unsubscribe ignored.

Dr. Brian Jude (Power seminars, dynamic seminars, www.drjude.co.za, www.seminarsforgrowth.net) | Unable to unsubscribe (tried several times). When I sent him the standard response (from main page), he replied with all the details where he bought his "bona fida mail list", but he still kept sending me spam!. Apparently, he bought the list from the person/ institution below.

Don't stare media - Evert Hoff | Managing Director Don't Stare Media evert@dontstaremedia.com

083 626 3680

DVD Rebel | Sending countless mails to an address that's only available if harvested from the web.

Certech | Frequent requests to be removed from their system ignored. Unsubscribe gets you subscribed to a different list. Sender frequently requested to cease and desist to no avail.

EconoBEE (EconoServ SA), 011 4831190 | We constantly receive email from this company to users on the systems we maintain. Quite clearly harvested as we receive them on info@ addresses that never send outbound mail. I received a mail from them recently to my personal account and responded, requesting that they supply me with the details of where they obtained my email address. No response as yet. Their emails are sent out by Certech Bulk Email and SMS marketing. Here is the EconoBEE Response and subsequent communication.

EES-SIYAKHA, 011 4862735 | As above, we receive email from this company to users on the systems we maintain. Quite clearly harvested as we receive them on info@ addresses that never send outbound mail. After being queried, they indicated that they source their list from Matrix Marketing (011 8860494). Their emails are sent out by Certech Bulk Email and SMS marketing.

Traveller Club, Reg: CK2004/126454/23, VAT: 4950 235 251, 0861 11 61 56 No idea if the unsubscribe works as I reported them to their hosting company and their account was terminated. I asked for them to disclose where they got my email addresses (from 2 different domains) but no reply so far.

The definition of spam includes all unsolicited commercial communication: MTN sends out approximately 10 million spam SMS and MMS messages at a time in South Africa to their own customers. The numbers these spam messages come from changes. Here are 2 numbers: 083-930-1015 and 083-930-0915. The first one was an advertisement where you are charged R7.50 to enter a competition. The second one was another advertisement for a competition in the form of a 50 second MMS. If it takes 1 minute to open the MMS and view it, approximately 166 thousand hours were wasted by the approximately 10 million MTN subscribers. MTN also has no system in place where other spam can be reported (like Vodacom). MTN and Vodacom (and Cell C) makes money from all spam messages sent through their networks.
